This low-impact adult water aerobics class is a fun, energetic addition to both our Adult Fitness and Aquatics programs. Swimmers are led by an instructor through a series of deep-water exercises with the support of a floatation belt.
These beginner swim lessons offer more personal instruction and a progressive curriculum for children who are ready to take the plunge! Along with increased comfort in the water, children learn basic breath control and arm and leg movements. Through a more structured class setting, swimmers are introduced to swim vocabulary used throughout all levels of our Learn-to-Swim program and learn to independently follow the lead of the instructor. After completion of the Begin2Swim program, swimmers may be ready to move up to the first level of our Youth Swim Lessons.
These drop-in classes are great for adults who have a fear of the water, are new to swimming, or want to learn proper strokes and breathing, enabling them to swim for longer distances. Our swim instructors for these classes are trained specifically to teach adults beginner to intermediate swimming skills. We offer two groups each week, divided by skill level so we can be sure to offer the most appropriate level of instruction for each individual.
This drop-in class helps new swimmers become comfortable in and around the water. Songs and games introduce beginner swim skills (such as kicking, splashing, and blowing bubbles) and create a fun, positive experience for young children in the pool. This class is included in Family Membership to the Downtown Community Center.
Family Swim is recreational pool time reserved for families of all ages. Parents are completely responsible for their children in the pool and locker room areas. All non-swimmers must be accompanied in the water by an adult, and no child under the age of 13 will be admitted into the pool without a parent or guardian present. Please note: during weekend Family Swim we do not guarantee lane availability for lap swimming.
The Downtown Community Center is proud to have its very own swim team! Practices are held multiple times per week, allowing swimmers to gain increased endurance, improve fitness and self-confidence, refine their stroke technique, and learn competitive skills and sportsmanship. Our coaching philosophy emphasizes our belief in self-competition and setting personal goals. The team’s home and competition site is the Downtown Community Center Pool. Please note that swimmers must demonstrate specific skill requirements to enroll.
