Downtown Basketball League

Since 1992, Manhattan Youth's Downtown Basketball League has been helping kids learn the game of basketball, but more importantly, the principals of teamwork, personal responsibility and sportsmanship right here in Lower Manhattan.

Athletic Director Lamont Williams and Manhattan Youth's talented Basketball Staff offer high-level instruction which focuses on cultivating both individual and team-based advanced basketball skills, great times and lots of fun!

Our Downtown Basketball League offers programs for boys in grades 2 through 9 and girls in grades 2 through 5. The Downtown Basketball League is run in two phases: Pre-season and Regular Season.

During pre-season, youth are evaluated based on their skill set and participate in many scrimmages to help enhance their abilities on the court. Pre-season begins the week of November 12th, 2014.

In January, our regular season begins. Each participant will be placed on a team which will play against other teams once a week on their team league night. Shirts are distributed in January with team assignments. League Games run from January through March on weeknights beginning at either 6:15pm or 7:40pm based on age group. 2nd / 3rd grade girls will only meet at 6:15. All youth receive trophies for their participation. We use PS 89, PS 234 , PS 397 and PS 276 gyms for practice and games.

In addition to our league play, we also offer clinics, which help develop a players basketball skills. Clinics are offered for boys in grades 1 through 5 and girls in grades 1 through 7. Clinics take place on the weekend and take place from November 15th to March 21st.
